MIS 650  Project Seminar

Fall/Winter 2005-6

Course Schedule

This course meets for lectures only during the fall of 2005-6 academic year.  Students may sign up for the course in either semester but must attend lectures during the fall.

There are three components to the course:

1     Lectures on a variety of topics related to preparing a project in MIS

2    Supervised project execution

3    Project evaluation

Lectures will take place on the first four Monday evenings of the fall term. Notice that due to the peculiarities of the 2005-6 schedule, the first class will not take place until September 12 (since Sept. 5 is Labor Day, a holiday); however, students are urged to contact Dr. Licker as early as possible prior to the first class to speak about potential projects. These lectures will cover topics including, but not limited to:

Supervised project execution will take place either during the fall term or the winter term.  Students will be assigned project supervisors based on mutual interests during the first four weeks of the fall term.  Project supervisors may be any professor in the SBA.  See the Project Supervision webpage for details.

Project evaluation will take place at three points during a student's registration (depending on which semester the student is officially registered for the course):

    A. Initial evaluation based on a project proposal, a two-to-three-page description of intended work, due at the third week of the course (i.e., during the fall semester) and used as the basis of assignment of supervisor.

    B. Supervisory evaluation of progress due at the end of the semester of the student's registration (i.e., the semester in which the student actually carries out the project).  This is done according to a checklist provided by the instructor.

    C. Instructor evaluation of the project, with grade assignment at the end of the term during which the student is enrolled in the course.

The schedule below is split into two components.  The left-hand component ("Fall 2005")applies to all students registered in 2005-6 (except weeks 14-15, which relate only to those registered in the fall semester); the right one ("Winter 2006"), applies only to those registered in the winter semester 2006.
